Jamaica College : The James Adams Award - 2004 Awardee Vivian Malcolm

Vivian Roy Malcolm has been selected by the Sports Development Committee to receive the James Adams Award.

This is a new award designed to assist a recent past student of Jamaica College. Awardees should have done exceptionally well in the sporting arena for Jamaica College and should also possess an excellent disciplinary record. The recipient must have qualified for sixth form at Jamaica College.

The committee will look annually for a recipient, however, if the criteria are not met, the selection of a recipient will be deferred to the following year. The intention is to get media coverage that is positive for the school and to encourage the students to raise their ambitions.

Each candidate that receives the award will be assisted financially and be guided by a suitable mentor. The monetary donations and support will go towards the recipients planned career.

All donations can be made payable to the Jamaica College Old Boys Association.

Vivian Malcolm attended Jamaica College, from 1995 to 2003. Vivian scored 35 goals for Jamaica College in Manning Cup Football. This stands as a record as the most prolific goal scorer for our college. Vivian has represented Jamaica at the under 17 level and scored 7 goals for his country in the tournament. Vivian is presently playing for Tivoli for the under 21 team and has scored 5 goals to date. He is intent upon returning to the national program.

Vivian Malcolm was successful in attaining 5 CXC (O Level) subjects and 1 Advanced Level.

Vivian has requested assistance to pursue his dream of becoming an airline pilot. Vivian has already started ground school for his private pilots license program. He attends Compania De Aviacion De Jamaica Y Caribe Limited, (The Flying Club) where the classes presently take place on the Jamaica College compound and the practical at the Tinson Pen Aerodrome. The cost of the private pilot program is Six Thousand United States Dollars (US$6,000) inclusive of ground school fees, reading material and items for the flying section of the syllabus.

Vivian Malcolm has already received Six Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JA$6,000) towards his dream career through donations from past students and the money was applied towards his aviation ground school fees.
