Help Jamaica College History Teacher Miss Grant with her Cancer Treatment.

Ms. Grant was diagnosed with cancer in 2013. So far she has had:

  • a mastectomy done (her left breast) in March 2013
  • 16 sessions of chemotherapy over a six (6) month period ending March 2014 and is now experiencing the side effects of the chemo treatment i.e. loss of all bodily hair, loss of nails.
  • and she recently underwent tests on her right breast because a possibly cancerous lump was detected. She is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 to remove the lump.
  • Ms. Grant is in need of radiation treatment for the left breast area (and perhaps the right area if cancer is detected in the right breast). Unlike chemotherapy which attempts to kill the cancer cells through the whole body, radiation is specific to the affected area(s) and more deadly (thus the precautions we always hear about exposure to radiation etc).
  • The radiation equipment at the KPH is out of service therefore her radiation treatment has to be done privately.
  • Cost for the radiation treatment for the left breast area identified is $11,083.80 USD. At ROE of JMD110.00 = USD1.00 that would be $1,219,218.00 JMD
